Liner Notes: The Doors L.A. Woman – this is gonna be nuts

BRnU8PCCYAAA8mS.jpg-large

So, a week today I’m going to be performing at this crazy-assed event in Melbourne. Every year they pick a ‘classic’ album, give a track each to some creative bod for inspiration, and see what happens. And there’s a house band and everything. This year it’s The Doors’ L.A. Woman. I fucking hate The Doors and have written a violent, nasty short story called ‘Mojo Falling’. Come and watch me read it in front of hundreds of avid Doors fans! Awesome! Tickets and shit here.

‘The messiah has returned.’ Me on McIlvanney in The Guardian

WilliamMcIlvanney

Aye so, some of you might’ve missed this earlier. Here’s a piece I wrote on William McIlvanney and tartan noir for today’s Guardian. It was a rush job, I only got the call late last week, quick turnaround etc, and it’s been edited pretty shoddily if I’m honest, but there you go.

Enjoy!

The_Signal_and_the_Noise_by_Nate_Silver_book_cover_001

Aye so, here’s my cheeky wee review of Nate Silver’s The Signal and the Noise (Penguin) that appeared in The Scotland on Sunday at the weekend. Very interesting book. Smart guy. Statto. Don’t have a scooby why it’s got a deer and a railway track on the cover.

A blether with Denise Mina in the Independent on Sunday

DeniseMinaTHUMB

So in case you missed it over the weekend, I interviewed Denise Mina in yesterday’s Independent on Sunday. She was on cracking form. The difficulty was deciding what to leave out. Lots of chat about the graphic novels, about prostitution, and a wee rant about Jeremy Clarkson amongst the stuff that didn’t make the cut. Click on through to see what else she had to say.
